slope sensor is mounted on a transversing beam that spans the width of the machine. Mounting the sensor in this manner gives the cross slope of the machine. The cross slope of the rotor is therefore known. The ECM knows the actual slope value and the slope setpoint value. The appropriate front leg is adjusted in order to compensate for any deviations. The slope sensor reads an absolute value of the direction of earth's gravity. The slope sensor is calibrated against an external level during the calibration of the slope sensor. See Testing And Adjusting, "Calibration". When you are setting up the machine to mill, the desired slope for milling is set. This is called the slope setpoint value. See Systems Operation, "Setpoints". The system has the ability to function when no slope sensor is attached. However without a slope sensor, the slope control method cannot be selected while the machine is in the automatic operating mode. When no slope sensor is attached, the left and right slope indicators alternately flash the whole time, until a sensor is attached. Also, the jump function and the return to grade functions are not allowed. If the operator attempts one of these conditions that are not allowed, the system makes the operator aware by alternately flashing the right and left slope indicators. When the slope control method is selected, each side of the readout will be showing symbols that are in conflict.
