Part 1. Remove The Main Piston Pump
a. Drain the hydraulic oil. Follow the disassembly and assembly manual instructions to remove the main piston pump. b. Remove the main hydraulic return filter from the hydraulic tank and inspect for debris.Part 2. Measure The Engine Crankshaft Axial Endplay
a. Remove the engine oil filter and cut it open to inspect for debris.b. With the pump removed position a dial indicator on the flywheel.c. Pry the crankshaft rearward. Zero the dial indicator and pry the crankshaft flywheel forward. Record the endplay.d. If the engine crankshaft does not exceed .015 "(0.38mm) and if no debris is in the engine oil filter, go to PART 3.e. If the engine crankshaft axial endplay exceeds .015 " (0.38mm) or if there is debris in the engine oil filter, remove the 3306 oil pan and inspect the rear engine thrust bearing. If the aluminum layer on the rear thrust bearing is completely worn off, inspect the crankshaft thrust bearing surface. If the crankshaft bearing surface is rough or grooved, replace the crankshaft. See Illustration 1.
