Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the gas pressure regulator solenoid.
Remove the fuel control valve.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove clamp (2) that fastens tube assembly (1) to the elbow.
Remove support bracket (3).
Remove the clamps on each end of tube (4). Remove tube (4).
Remove tube assembly (5).

Remove clamp (6) that fastens tube assembly (1) to the elbow.
Remove tube assembly (1).
Remove support bracket (7).
Remove the clamps on each end of tube assembly (9). Remove tube assembly (9).
Remove tube assemblies (8) and (10).

Remove tube assemblies (11) and (12).
Remove the nut on each end of tube assembly (14). Slide the tube assembly toward the front of the engine in order to remove the aftercooler.
Remove two bracket (13) and tube assembly (15).

Remove the clamps from tube assemblies (16) and (17).
A wood block and a pry bar are used to remove tube assembly (16) and tube assembly (17) from the bonnet of the aftercooler.

Remove elbows (18) and (19) from the bonnet of the aftercooler.

Remove four bolts (21) that fasten elbow (20) to the throttle control valve.

Remove four bolts (23) that fasten pipe (22) to the turbocharger compressor housing on each side of the engine.

Position nylon straps (24) and attach a suitable lifting device to aftercooler (25).

Remove the nuts on two bolts (26) on front side of mounting plate (27) and on the rear side mounting plate. Bolts (26) cannot be removed until the mounting plate is removed from the aftercooler.

Remove two bolts (28) on the sides of the mounting plate for the aftercooler.
Remove the aftercooler from the engine. The weight of the aftercooler is 363 kg (800 lb).
