Schematic of the "Auxiliary Pedal Position Sensor (Attachment)" circuitThis diagnostic code is associated with the "Auxiliary Pedal Position" Sensor. The FMI 05 diagnostic code means the Machine ECM has detected a resistance in the sensor circuit greater than 5000 ohms. This resistance results in a below normal current. The "Auxiliary Pedal Position " Sensor is a 24 VDC sensor controlled by the Machine ECM ON/OFF driver output. This sensor can be overridden in Cat ET.Conditions that could cause this diagnostic code are listed below :
The energize circuit of the sensor is open.
The return circuit of the sensor is open.
The sensor has failed.
The Machine ECM has failed. This situation is unlikely. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SENSOR
Disconnect the sensor from the machine harness.
At the machine harness connector for the sensor, connect a jumper wire from contact 1 (wire 158-BR) to contact 2 (wire J878-YL).
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Observe the status of the CID 1130 FMI 05 diagnostic code.Expected Result:The active diagnostic code changes from an FMI "05" to an FMI "06" diagnostic code as the jumper wire is installed. Results:
YES - The active diagnostic code changes from an FMI "05" to an FMI "06" diagnostic code when the jumper wire is installed. The sensor has failed.Repair: The sensor has failed. Repeat this Test Step "CHECK THE SENSOR" to verify the sensor failure. Replace the sensor. Verify that the new sensor corrects the problem.STOP
NO - The CID 1130 FMI 05 diagnostic code remains active. The jumper wire does not affect the status of the diagnostic code. The sensor is correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the Switch Panel.
The jumper wire that was installed in the previous test step remains in place.
At the machine harness connector for the Switch Panel, measure the resistance from wire 158-BR to wire J878-YL.
While observing the multimeter resistance measurement, wiggle the machine harness connectors for the ECM. Gently pull on the wires and move the wires around.
While observing the multimeter resistance measurement, wiggle the machine harness connector for the sensor. Gently pull on the wires and move the wires around. Do not disconnect the jumper wire.Expected Result:The resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms at all times during the manipulation of the harness and connectors. Results:
OK - The resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms. The circuit is not open in the machine harness. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance measurement is greater than 5 ohms. The resistance measurement is not correct. There is an open or a bad connection in the machine harness.Repair: A resistance measurement that is greater than 5000 ohms could indicate that a wire is either
