1     X             No immediate action is required. The system needs attention soon.     No harmful effects or no damaging effects.
2     X     X (4)         Change machine operation or perform maintenance to the system.     Severe damage to components can occur.
3     X     X (4)     X (5)     Immediately perform a safe engine shutdown.     Injury to the operator or severe damage to components can occur.
( 1 ) The active warning indications are marked with an X.
( 2 ) This is the possible result if no action is taken by the operator.
( 3 ) The alert indicator flashes at a 2 Hz rate.
( 4 ) "The action lamp flashes at a .5 Hz rate (.5 seconds ON, .5 seconds OFF)".
( 5 ) "The action alarm sounds at a .5 Hz rate (.5 seconds ON, .5 seconds OFF)".

Message Center Module (11) Alert Indicator (12) Message Area (13) Universal Gauge (14) Gauge Warning Areas The operator will be warned of immediate problems with a machine system or impending problems with a machine system by the VIDS. Warning operations are activated when the VIDS detects a sensed value above or below the safe operating range, such as "Engine Speed Too High" ("data event"). Warning operations are also activated when the VIDS detects a problem with the electronic control system ("maintenance event"). A maintenance event is detected when an abnormal signal from a switch, sensor, or another electronic control module. An abnormal signal is usually caused by an open circuit or a shorted circuit. The VIDS ECM analyzes these "abnormal conditions". The VIDS then notifies the operator by activating the appropriate "warning indications" on the display components. The warning indications are listed below:
FLASHING of the alert indicator on the message center. ("The alert indicator flashes approximately two times per second.")
The action lamp FLASHES. ("The action lamp ON .5 seconds and OFF .5 seconds.")
The action alarm is SOUNDED. ("The action alarm is turned ON for .5 seconds and turned OFF for .5 sec ds.")Note: More than one input is required in order to activate some warning indications. The warning indication that is activated is determined by the VIDS. Data events and maintenance events are classified into multiple warning categories. There are three warning categories that are shown to the operator. The categories are based on the severity of the problem and this dictates the response that is required by the operator. Warning category 1 represents the
