Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Position the front axle housing on suitable support stands or blocks to prevent the axle housing from moving.2. Remove the two bolts that hold cover (1) to the differential housing. Remove cover (1) and the shims from the differential housing. 3. Install a3/8inch - 16 NC Forged Eyebolt in thrust pin (2). Remove the thrust pin from the differential housing. Remove the O-ring seal from the thrust pin.
Typical Example4. Put identification marks on brake purge hoses (3), two on each wheel end. Remove the hoses from the wheel ends only. Cap and plug all openings immediately.5. Put identification marks on brake cooling hoses (4), two on each wheel end. Remove the hoses from the wheel ends only. Cap and plug all openings immediately.6. Put identification marks on brake hoses (5), two on each wheel end. Remove the hoses from the wheel ends only. Cap and plug all openings immediately. 7. Remove the two bolts that hold manifold (6) to the front axle housing and move the manifold and hoses away from the front differential housing.8. Remove the two bolts that hold parking brake manifold (7) to the front axle housing and move the manifold and hoses away from the front differential housing.9. Remove the bolt that holds clip (8) to the front axle housing and move the clip and the hoses away from the differential housing. 10. Remove the two bolts that hold cooling hose support bracket (9) to the front axle housing and move the bracket and the hoses away from the front axle housing. 11. Remove the bolt that holds clip (10) to the front differential housing on both sides of the housing. Move the clip and the hose away from the housing. 12. Remove the bolt that holds clip (11) to the support on both sides of the front axle assembly. Move clip (11) and hoses away from the support. 13. Fasten a hoist to support (12), as shown. Remove the eight bolts, nuts and washers (13) that hold support (12) to the front axle housing. Remove the support from the front axle housing. The weight of support (12) is 545 kg (1200 lb). 14. Remove bolts (14) (except two opposite each other) that hold the differential to the housing. Install two 20 mm - 2.5 Forcing Screws (15) in the differential. Loosen
