Introduction
Winch speeds may be changed by ordering and installing the appropriate parts. The winch speed can be changed from standard to low speed, or from low to standard speed. This publication will give the part numbers required. It will also show the locations of the parts in the winch. Order the parts for making the conversion by ordering the individual parts shown in the PARTS NEEDED chart. Caterpillar recommends installing all new gaskets and seals provided. Changing the Gears
1. Drain the oil from the winch.2. Remove the winch from the machine.
Converting the Powershift Standard to Powershift and Direct Drive Low Speed or Converting Powershift and Direct Drive Low Speed to Powershift Standard.
Converting the Powershift Standard to Direct Drive Standard.3. Remove and replace the appropriate parts. See the Towing Winches Service Manual for disassembly and assembly instructions.4. Stamp the appropriate data on the serial number plate in the area labeled modifications. Update the standard or slow speed indication.5. Reinstall the winch. Add the correct type and quantity of oil to the winch sump. Refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual.
