Diagnostic Trouble Codes for the Circuit for the ARD Fuel Injector Solenoids
J1939 Code Description Notes
3556-6 Aftertreatment 1 Hydrocarbon Doser 1 : Current Above Normal The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects the following conditions:
A high current condition (short circuit) for the number 1 Aftertreatment Regeneration Device (ARD) injector for at least 0.05 seconds.
The keyswitch is ON for at least 2 seconds.
If equipped, the warning lamp will flash and the shutdown lamp will come on.
The engine will shut down.
6581-6 Aftertreatment 1 Hydrocarbon Doser 2 : Current Above Normal The ECM detects the following conditions:
A high current condition (short circuit) for the number 2 ARD injector for at least 0.05 seconds.
The keyswitch is ON for at least 2 seconds.
If equipped, the warning lamp will flash and the shutdown lamp will come on.
The engine will shut down.

(2) ARD injector 2Test Step 1. Inspect Electrical Connectors and Wiring
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position. A strong electrical shock hazard is present if the keyswitch is not turned OFF.
Check the fuses for each ARD fuel injector.
Thoroughly inspect the connectors at the injectors. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for details.
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires in the ECM connector that are associated with the ARD injector solenoids.
Check the harness and wiring for abrasion and for pinch points from the injectors to the ECM.
Check the power supply wiring for the ARD fuel injectors for abrasion and for pinch points from the main relay to the ECM.Results:
All connectors, pins, and sockets are correctly connected and/or inserted and the harness is free of corrosion, of abrasion and of pinch points. - The harness is OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
There is a fault in the connectors and/or the harness. - Repair: Repair the connectors or the harness and/or replace the connectors or the harness. Ensure that all the seals are correctly in place and ensure that the connectors are correctly connected. Replace any blown fuses.Use the electronic service tool to clear all logged diagnostic codes and then verify that the repair eliminates the fault.STOPTest Step 2. Check for Active Diagnostic Codes
Connect the electronic service tool to the diagnostic connector.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.Note: Wait at least 30 seconds for activation of the diagnostic codes.
Use the electronic service tool to verify if any of the diagnostic codes that are listed in Table 1 are active or recently logged.Results:
A 3556-6 or 6581-6 diagnostic code is active or recently logged. - Proceed to
