Do not force material out to the end gate, the chamber will probably overfill. Instead, move some material with a shovel to the area in front of the extender. Do not fill in the area next to the main screed and directly in front of the extender. This area will be filled by material automatically as the paver pulls forward off the starting reference.
When you have filled the auger chamber exactly half full, put the auger switches (9) and conveyor switches (8) in the auto mode. Starting to Pave
Pull off the starting reference.Start with the speed control dial set at zero. Make sure that the gear selector is in the PAVE mode, the engine throttle is set at high idle, the parking brakes are released and the propel lever is moved all the way forward. Then, turn the speed control dial clockwise until the calculated paving speed is reached.Screed personnel should refer to step 14 in the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Paving by the Numbers" for the screed attached to the machine, in order to ensure that the proper amount of material requirements are met for the extenders. As the paver comes up to speed, the operator should look down at the area in the center of the auger chamber. The goal is to maintain the mix level so one half of the auger shaft is covered.Use the independent left and right feeder ratio controls to adjust the height of the mix in the center. The augers should be turning uniformly in the range of 20-40 rpm.To slow down the augers, the operator turns the ratio control dials clockwise. To increase auger speed, turn the ratio control dials counterclockwise. For proper screed adjustments refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the screed attached to your machine.Setting the Paver Speed
After the paver has been set up and adjusted, one of the most important fundamental concepts of smooth paving is maintaining a constant paving speed. In most cases, the machine can pave smoothly at any speed. The paving speed must match the delivery of mix to the job site. Maintaining a constant speed is crucial for a smooth mat.If the paving speed is changed significantly, the height of the screed will change and the smoothness of the mat will suffer. Also, if paving speed changes, the demands on the feeder system change. The feeder system controls must be adjusted in order to match the new settings. For quality results, always follow the basic concepts for setup and keep the operation consistent. Ending a Mat
Several methods are used in order to obtain a good vertical edge at the end of a mat. The methods will allow a compactor to move on the mat and off the mat.
Illustration 6 g03349023One method of ending a mat uses a piece of paper (11) about 914 mm (36 inch) wide. The paper should be a little longer than the width of the mat.The paver is run until all of the material in the hopper is used. The conveyors and
