Machines Equipped With Electric HornsElectric horns have two main causes of failure: stuck push button switches or incorrect horn mounting. Either cause may bring about immediate and permanent damage to the horn.
Stuck dash mounted switches are easily detected. They are most likely to stick immediately after use. Any time a horn sounds like it is stuck ON, pull on the horn knob to assure that it is fully extended.
Electric horns (examples: 7T0969, 7T0970, 7T0635) must be free to "float" on laminated (four layers of thin steel) mounting bracket (1). When the horn sounds, the entire horn housing (2) (which is suspended on the laminated mounting bracket) vibrates. If the housing or bracket interferes (touches) with other machine parts, the horn sound will be deadened and horn damage will result.
When replacing electric horns, be sure they are fully suspended on the laminated mounting bracket supplied with the horn. The horn assembly must be supported by the mounting hole in the horn bracket.
