Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: The steering system and the hydraulic fan drive motor for the engine share common hydraulic oil.Note: To access the filler cap, the filler tube, the filler strainer, and the sight gauges, it may be necessary to use a portable access system (ladder, stair assembly, man lift, or other portable access system) that is suitable and compliant to local regulations.Selection of the Oil Change Interval
Your machine may be able to use a 4000 hour or 6000-hour interval for the steering and fan oils. The oil should be monitored in increments of 500 hours. The extended interval can be used if the following criteria are met.Oil (Steering and Fan System)
The 6000-hour interval for changing the oil is possible when using S O S Services oil analysis and the following oil types:
Caterpillar TDTO-TMS
Caterpillar HYDO Advance 30The 4000-hour interval for changing the oil is possible when using S O S Services oil analysis and the following oil types:
Caterpillar Transmission/Drive Train Oil (TDTO) 30
Caterpillar Diesel Engine Oil (DEO) 15W-40
Caterpillar Bio HYDO Advanced
Caterpillar DEO-ULS 15W-40
Caterpillar DEO-ULS Cold Weather 0W-40
Caterpillar DEO-ULS SYN 5W-40
Commercial Diesel Engine Oils that meet ECF-1a, ECF-2, ECF-3, CK-4
Commercial Oils that meet Cat TO-4Monitoring the Condition of the Oil
The oil should be monitored during intervals of 500 hours. Caterpillar standard S O S Fluids Analysis or an equivalent oil sampling program should be used.If an oil sampling program is not available, the standard 2000 oil change interval should be used.Measured Data
The following information should be monitored when you sample the oil:
Significant changes in wear metals should be monitored. These metals include iron, copper, chromium, lead, aluminum, and tin.
The following additives should be observed for significant changes: Zinc, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. Changes to these elements could indicate that the oil formulation has changed.
Contaminants should not be present, e.g. antifreeze. Water content should be 0.5 percent or less.
The recommended level of cleanliness for 797F operating in the field is ISO 18/15 or cleaner (up to ISO 21/17 for hydraulic brake cooling circuit). The cleanliness should be monitored by particle count analysis. The levels of contamination should not exceed normal levels by more than two ISO codes. Action should be taken to determine the cause of the contamination. The system should be returned to the original levels of contamination.
There should not be significant changes in sodium, silicon, copper, and potassium.
The oxidation level should follow guidelines per S O S Services program.
The kinematic viscosity at 100 degrees Celsius should not exceed a 2 cST
