Information:
A new series of electrical connectors has been released that improves the performance (reliability) and permits repairs to be made easily to electrical systems.
The VE (Vehicular Environmental) series of connectors has special characteristics. These characteristics permit each contact of the connectors to be serviced without the replacement of electrical harnesses. The result is a lower cost of service for electrical systems. A typical use of VE connectors is on the electrical harness to operator stations of vehicles.
The VE metal cover (shell), connectors have been released for use in some applications, as in transmission shift harness, where the MS (Military Specification) connectors were formerly used. The VE connectors are used where higher temperatures are present and where connectors with more than 10 contacts or where high current capacity contacts are needed.
The 6V4810 VE Connector Tool Group has been released for service of all VE Connectors. See Illustration 1. The tools in the 6V4810 Tool Group permit removal of any single contact. Once removed and after repairs or a replacement of the contact has been made, these same tools are used to install the contact into the connector. Also, with these same tools, a change to the arrangement of the contacts within the connector can be made.
Illustration 1. 6V4810 Tool Group. The design of the 6V4810 Tool Group permits the four tools of the group to be placed on top of each other for storage. To prevent the loss of the individual tools, a bead chain is used to keep them together.
The tight fit of the contacts in the connector insulator and the rubber seal make it necessary that a "feel" be developed for the technique required. Because of the small size of the contacts and the tools, especially the smallest contact and the small 6V4812 Insertion Tool, extra care must be used to prevent damage to the tools.
Special Instruction, Form SEHS8038 has all the information needed to remove, repair, make a replacement and change the location of a contact within the connector.
The chart that follows shows which tool to use for the different size contacts.
The complete 6V4810 Tool Group as well as separate parts of the group are available and can be ordered as needed. When replacement connector body parts are needed, make reference to the Parts Book for your machine or engine.

Illustration 4. Tool in correct position for contact installation. The Sure-Seal Connectors, released earlier, are used where molded-on, rubber insulated, bullet-type connectors were formerly used. The 6V3000 Sure-Seal Repair Kit is used to service the Sure-Seal Connectors. See the January 19, 1981 Service Magazine article "New Sure-Seal Electrical Connectors Used In Electrical Wiring Harnesses; Use 6V3000 Sure-Seal Repair Kit To Repair Sure-Seal Electrical Connectors" and the November 2, 1981 Service Magazine article "Steel Retainer Clips For Sure Seal Connectors Used In Electrical Harness."
