Accidental engine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the equipment.To avoid accidental engine starting, disconnect the battery cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Completely tape all metal surfaces of the disconnected battery cable end in order to prevent contact with other metal surfaces which could activate the engine electrical system.Place a Do Not Operate tag at the Start/Stop switch location to inform personnel that the equipment is being worked on.

Remove the inlet manifold and the heater. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly Manual, SENR9502, "Inlet Manifold-Remove" for more information on this topic.
Separate the air inlet heater from the air inlet manifold.Note: Be careful not to damage the coil for the air inlet heater during separation.
Remove inlet air temperature sensor (13) and discard the former inlet manifold.

Install inlet air temperature sensor (13) in the new inlet elbow (1) .
Install ether nozzle (14) from the ether starting aid group (2) into the new air inlet elbow (1) .Note: The jet in the ether nozzle should point away from the engine.
Install the air inlet manifold and the heater onto the engine. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly Manual, SENR9502, "Inlet Manifold-Install" for more information on this topic.

Install plate assembly (2) from the ether starting aid group on the engine with bolts (8) and washers (9). Refer to Illustration 2 and Illustration 3 for the location of components.
Ground wiring harness (3) for ether starting aid group (2) to the bolt with clip (10) .
Route harness (3) for the ether starting aid along the front left side of the engine. Harness (3) should be routed with the main wiring harness to the rear connector of the engine ECM.
Remove the rear 70-pin connector from the engine ECM.
Move the wire in socket 15 to socket 17.
Install the wires from harness (3) of the ether starting aid into the appropriate locations in the 70-pin connector.Note: Socket locations are already specified on the wires.
Reconnect the rear 70-pin connector to the engine ECM.

Remove 196-9852 Plate As from the fire wall.
Install ether starting aid relay (11) from ether starting aid group (2) onto new 196-9852 Plate As
