Position sensor of the steering cylinder When one of the position sensor of the steering cylinder has been replaced, two setup parameters must be changed in order for the Implement ECM to correctly control the cylinder operation. One of the parameters is addressed in this story. The procedure that is in this story is performed when a position sensor of the steering cylinder is replaced in a hydraulic steering cylinder that has previously been in operation on the machine. The other parameter is performed when the complete hydraulic steering cylinder group is replaced. For that parameter, refer to this Testing and Adjusting, RENR9088, "New Steering Cylinder Group (Set)" for the setup procedure. For removal and replacement of the position sensor from the hydraulic steering cylinder, refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, RENR9704, "Clevis Style Cylinder Sensor - Remove and Install". Set Procedure
Note: This procedure will require the use of the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) service tool. This setup procedure is used when the position sensor of the steering cylinder is replaced in a hydraulic steering cylinder that has been previously in operation on the machine.

Steering cylinder with the new position sensor connected at the head end with the portable hydraulic pump.
The disconnect switch and the key start switch are in the OFF position.
The Cat ET is connected to the machine service connector.
After the new position sensor has been installed in the steering cylinder, fasten the cylinder to the machine at the cylinder head end only.
Do not attach the rod end of the cylinder to the machine. Allow enough space for full extension of the cylinder rod.
Connect the correct wiring harness connector to the new position sensor of the steering cylinder.
Connect a portable hydraulic pump, a hand hydraulic pump, compressed air or a similar device that will enable manual retraction and extension of the cylinder to the connectors of the hydraulic cylinder.
Fully retract the cylinder rod to the cylinder.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Note: Do not start the engine.

Status screen for the Implement ECM
In the Cat ET Status screen for the Implement ECM, look under the "Joystick Steering 2" group. With the cylinder rod at full retraction, record the duration of the pulse of the position sensor for the steering cylinder that is listed for the position sensor that was replaced. Example Left or Right Steering Cylinder Position Sensor Pulse Duration
By using the portable device that is connected to the cylinder, manually move the cylinder rod to full extension.
In the Cat ET Status screen for the Implement ECM, look under the "Joystick Steering 2" group. With the cylinder rod at full extension, record the duration of the pulse of the position sensor for the Left or Right Steering Sensor Cylinder Position Sensor.

Status screen for the Implement configuration and Steering Parameters
The two new values that were recorded for the retraction of the cylinder rod and extension must be entered with the Cat ET. Follow the steps below:
In Cat ET, select
