Information:
Do not allow personnel near a rotating drill pipe.May cause serious injury or death.
Ensure that the safety cable/chain is always in place. If your machine is equipped with a hydraulic safety bar, then always keep the safety bar engaged. For information regarding the operator controls, refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Operator Controls".Adding Drill Pipe
If necessary, add drill pipe after a length of drill pipe has been drilled to depth.Note: Ensure that the drill string is clear of all personnel before rotating.
Continue drilling until the rotary head reaches the bottom of the mast.
Disengage the pulldown system and slow rotation. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Operator Controls" for more information.
Raise drill string until deck wrench can engage flats on the pipe. The drill bit will be slightly higher than bottom of the hole.
Turn off drilling air control switch once all material has flushed from hole.
Engage deck wrench and use reverse rotation to uncouple the rotary head from the drill pipe.If necessary, use the Hydraulically Operated Breakout (HOBO) wrench to uncouple the rotary head from the drill pipe. Undo the threads slowly.Note: When using the HOBO, always use caution and do not use the rotation or hoist/pulldown controls when the wrench is engaged.
Raise the rotary head until the head is above the carousel.
Swing the carousel into the LOAD position and index the next drill pipe below the rotary head. Lock the carousel in position.
Lower rotary head until light contact is made with drill pipe thread.
Slowly forward rotate to make up the joint, ensure cross threading does not occur by watching the drill pipe lift in carousel.
Raise the drill pipe so the wrench plate can slide out.
Swing the carousel into theout position.
Apply thread grease to the drill pipe threads.
Lower drill pipe slowly until light contact is made with bottom thread. Forward rotate slowly to thread the two drill pipes.
Turn drilling air on to continue flushing hole of any fall back or water.
Disengage the deck wrench and slowly resume drilling.Removing Drill Pipe
To remove drill pipes from the hole, all the threads must be loosened prior to lifting drill pipes from the bottom of the hole.Note: Ensure that the drill string is clear of all personnel before rotating.
Once the desired hole depth is reached, disengage the pulldown system and raise the rotary head. Do so until the drill pipe thread joint is above the deck wrench.
Align the tooling on the lower drill pipe with the deck wrench. The pipe joint should be about 2 inches above the deck wrench.
Engage the deck wrench and turn off the drilling air.
Using reverse rotation, break the thread on the drill pipe joint. If the joint breaks at the top, retighten and try again.
If the top coupling continues to undo, break the lower thread with the HOBO. Carefully disengage HOBO and carefully counter rotate the drill string to unscrew the pipe.
Raise the drill pipe above the carousel, aligning wrench plates to carousel plates.
Swing the carousel into LOAD position.
Lower the drill pipe into carousel.
Reverse rotate to uncouple the
