Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The 238-6842 Brake Anchor (770) or 239-1267 Brake Anchor (772) as well as the 238-6846 Plate need to be reworked on the products listed. The existing brake anchor studs can fail as the parking brake is released which will not allow the release of the parking brake. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 24Oct2007 when scheduling this service.

Rework Procedure
Each of the (3) tapped holes and (9) taper lock tapped holes affected by this publication are identified in the 238-6841 and 239-1266 brake group illustration below. Eight (8) holes identified as (A) and (C) must be reworked to the specified depths before re-assembly. The resultant installed stud height should be the same as the previous design.
Marked (A) - 3 holes Drill 10.5 ? A ( to 51mm depth)
Tap M12 x 1.75 H ( to 42.8mm depth)
Drill 13.8 ? B (to 25mm depth)
Marked (B) - 4 holes No Rework required
10.5-A (25mm depth)
M12 x 1.75 6H taperlock (15mm depth)
Marked (C) - 5 holes Drill 10.5-A (to 33mm depth)
Tap M12 x 1.75 6H taperlock (to 23mm depth)

During assembly, tighten nuts (B) in a crisscross pattern to 100 Nm and insure the piston housing is seated against the anchor.
Tighten the (8) bolts to 100 Nm in a crisscross pattern.
Retighten the nuts (B) in a crisscross pattern to 100+/-20 Nm.
Retighten the (8) bolts in a crisscross pattern to 100+/-20 Nm.
