DO NOT weld on wheel rims with the tire mounted on the rim. This can cause a tire explosion resulting in personal injury or death. Always remove the tire from the wheel rim and remove the rim from the machine before welding on the wheel rim.
--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------In certain conditions, rocks and/or debris can get inside the wheel rim and damage the valve stems on the tires of the above machines. The addition of fabricated valve stem protectors can help prevent this problem.
Illustration 1 gives information on the fabrication of valve stem protector plates that can be welded in place on each wheel rim. Fabricate two plates for each wheel rim. Illustration 2 gives information on welding the fabricated protectors to the wheel rim.
