8. Remove existing port connector from the left side cylinder head and replace with new 147-3396 connector and 214-7568 O-ring seal. Tighten the connector to a toque of 34 +/- 3 N*m (25 +/- 2 lb ft). Install the left front fuel hose using a new 322-7616 Hose. The existing P-clip should be replaced with a rubber grommeted clip. Install a new 7V-6571 rubber grommet using an 8T-1889 and 8T-1890 two-piece clip mounted with existing bolt and washer. Install clip mounted upward. Opening in the grommet must line up between gap in the 8T-1889 and 8T-1890 clips. Connect the 322-7616 fuel hose to the port connector and the tee and tighten both ends to a torque of 27 +/- 6 N*m (20 +/- 4 lb ft).
Ensure that the hoses do not contact nearby parts. Pressure pulsations in these hoses cause them to flex. Inadvertent contact with nearby surfaces will produce chafing/abrasion damage that could eventually lead to a leak.
If a metal part number tag is present, it must be removed after connecting the fuel hose. Failure to remove this metal tag can result in hose failure.
No cable tie fastening is allowed.

Ensure the engine is shut down and steps have been taken to prevent any attempt to start the engine while fuel hoses are being updated. Use caution to ensure that no dirt enters the fuel port in the cylinder head. Damage to the fuel injectors could result.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Download the appropriate software as indicated by referencing the chart below (Image 2.1.1). If a given engine's software is not listed in this table, please refer to SISWEB or TMI for the latest available software.
1. Download the appropriate software prior to beginning the rework.

2. Remove the existing front supply fuel hoses (2). Retain all hardware for reuse. Inspect the fuel hoses for chafing/abrasion damage. If observed, be sure to correct the issue when installing the new fuel hoses later. Pressure pulsations in these hoses cause them to flex. Inadvertent contact with nearby surfaces will produce chafing/abrasion damage that could eventually lead to a leak.
3. Remove the 228-7381 Check Valve Group in the fuel return manifold (B), and replace with the 327-4448 Check Valve Group. Refer to Image2.3.1.
4. Remove the fuel transfer pump (A) located next to the fuel return manifold (B) as shown in Image2.3.1.

5. Remove the Spring kit from the pump. Install the 339-4983 Spring Kit into the fuel transfer pump. Refer to Image2.4.1. The transfer pump has the old part number.
