configuration parameters are parameters that are configured to specify the engine emissions levels, the power rating, and the specific application. Default values for the parameters are programmed at the factory. Some parameters may be changed to equip the engine for a specific application. The system configuration parameters must be reprogrammed if the Electronic Control Module (ECM) is replaced without using the "Copy Configuration" tool that is in Cat Electronic Technician (ET). Do not reprogram the system configuration parameters if you update the ECM flash file. Certain configuration parameters are stamped into the engine information plate.Note: For more detailed information on configuration parameters, refer to the Troubleshooting manual , M0065674.Setting Configuration Parameters with the Advisor Monitor DisplayThe advisor monitor display can be used to change the configuration parameters for Cat gas engines. By selecting the "Configuration Menu" from the advisor main menu, the user can change certain configuration parameters.This functionality is password protected. As a default, the password is set to a value of "0". This security password can be changed at any time by selecting the "Display Setup" option from the advisor main menu. Next, select the "Change Password/PIN" option. The security password can also be changed using Cat ET.Upon entering the configuration mode, the software monitors the keystrokes. A timer is used to check if the advisor "Screen Saver Passwords" has expired. If a key is not pushed within the interval that is specified by the "Screen Saver Passwords", the advisor timer will time out. The user is then returned to the main menu. This time interval is configurable from 15 to 999 minutes by selecting the "Screen Saver Passwords" option.Some parameters are protected by security passwords. Customer passwords or factory passwords will require Cat ET to change these parameters. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Customer Passwords" and Troubleshooting, "Factory Passwords" for details.Note: Factory passwords are only available to service technicians from an authorized Cat Dealership. Customers of Caterpillar do not have access to the Cat Factory Password System (FPS).
