Maintenance Program
This section presents a recommended maintenance program for Cat® motors. This maintenance program is of a general nature, and should be considered as a minimum level of maintenance. Maintenance should be intensified when local conditions are demanding or high reliability is required. Even with the most stringent maintenance programs, the motor should always be monitored for abnormal conditions.Because this maintenance program is general in nature, there may be references to options or conditions that do not apply to all motors. This maintenance program is based on four levels of maintenance, which rotate according to site-specific operating hours. The amount of work and the time to complete will vary between levels. Level 1 might include a quick visual inspection, whereas level 4 may require more demanding inspections, measurements or even disassembly.Refer to Operation & Maintenance Manual, SEBU8852, "Maintenance Recommendations" for more detailed information on the recommended maintenance intervals.Equivalent Operating Hours
The operation hours recommendations in this chapter are given as equivalent operating hours.Equivalent operating hours can be calculated by using one of the following formulas:
Variable speed drive equivalent operating hours (VSD Eq. h) = Actual operating hours.
DOL equivalent operating hours (DOL Eq. h) = Actual operating hours + Number of starts x 20Level 1 (L1) Maintenance Program
A Level 1 (L1) maintenance consists of visual inspections and light maintenance. The purpose of a L1 maintenance is to check for initial indications of a failure or problem, or any potential causes of future problems. The L1 maintenance should also be used to determine what tasks should be performed in future overhauls or maintenance activities. This maintenance is estimated to last approximately 4 - 8 hours, depending on the type of motor installation and the depth of the inspections.Tools for this maintenance include normal servicing tools such as wrenches and screw drivers. The preparations consist of opening the inspection covers. Is recommended that any parts necessary to complete maintenance are on-site prior to starting. An L1 maintenance is first performed after 4,000 equivalent operating hours or 6 months after commissioning. Thereafter, the L1 maintenance should be performed yearly, halfway between the Level 2 maintenance.Level 2 (L2) Maintenance Program
An L2 maintenance consists of inspections and tests and small maintenance tasks. The purpose of the L2 maintenance is to check for operational problems and to perform any minor repair work. This maintenance is estimated to last approximately 8 - 16 hours, depending on the type of motor installation and the amount of servicing required.Tools for this maintenance include normal servicing tools, multi-meter, torque wrench, and an insulation resistance tester. Preparations consist mainly of opening the inspection covers and bearings if necessary. Is recommended that any parts necessary to complete maintenance are on-site prior to starting. The first L2 maintenance should be performed after 8,000 equivalent operating hours, or 1 year after commissioning. Thereafter, the L2 maintenance should be performed yearly or after every 8,000 equivalent operating hours.Level 3 (L3) Maintenance Program
An L3 maintenance consists of extensive inspections, tests, and larger maintenance tasks that have been previously identified. The purpose of this maintenance is to
