Information:
Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali. At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns.Remove cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure only when engine is stopped and cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Do not attempt to tighten hose connections when the coolant is hot, the hose can come off causing burns.Cooling System Coolant Additive contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
Do not change the coolant until you read and understand the cooling system information in Special Publication, SEBU6250, "Caterpillar Machine Fluids Recommendations".Failure to do so could result in damage to the cooling system components.
Mixing ELC with other products will reduce the effectiveness of the coolant. This could result in damage to cooling system components. If Caterpillar products are not available and commercial products must be used, make sure they have passed the Caterpillar EC-1 specification for pre-mixed or concentrate coolants and Caterpillar Extender.
Raise the engine hood.Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hood Tilting" for a guide to the proper procedure for raising the hood of the machine.

Slowly loosen the radiator cap in order to relieve the pressure. Slowly remove the radiator cap.
Remove the access cover for the coolant drain valve.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Access Doors and Covers".
Illustration 3 g01156898Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information on Containing Fluid Spillage.
Open the drain valve. Allow the coolant to drain into a suitable container.Note: Dispose of drained fluids according to local regulations.
Flush the cooling system with clean water until the draining water is transparent.
Close the drain valve.
Add the Extended Life Coolant. Refer to the following topics:
Special Publication, SEBU6250, "Caterpillar Machine Fluids Recommendations"
Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)"
Start the engine. Run the engine without the radiator cap until the water temperature regulator opens and the coolant level stabilizes.
Check the coolant level.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant Level - Check".
Replace the radiator cap if the gasket is damaged. Install the radiator cap.
Stop the engine.
Close the hood for the engine compartment.
