Ride Control Accumulators
(1) Solenoid valve. (2) Accumulators. (3) Charging valve.1. Move the machine to level ground. Turn the machine to the left to allow better access to accumulators (2). Stop the engine.2. Move transmission control lever to NEUTRAL.3. Engage the parking brake.4. Lower the bucket or attachment to the ground.5. Remove the valve guard and charging valve cap from one of the two accumulators. Install 1S-8938 Chuck Assembly and 1S-8941 Hose Assembly to the charging valve.6. Open the gas valve on the accumulator by turning the bottom nut approximately 1 turn counterclockwise. Open the bleed valve on 1S-8938 Chuck Assembly until all the gas precharge pressure has been released. If removing the accumulators from the hydraulic system, open the bottom nut approximately 4 turns.7. Start the engine. Raise the bucket or attachment to release the rest of the air from the gas side of the accumulator.8. Close the bleed valve on 1S-8938 Chuck Assembly while the bucket is off the ground.9. Lower the bucket or attachment to the ground. Stop the engine.10. After the engine stops, place the start switch key in the ON position.11. Place the ride control switch in the ON position.12. Move both the lift and tilt control levers until there is no more movement in the bucket or attachment. Allow 5 additional minutes for all system pressures to be exhausted from the accumulators before continuing.13. Attach nitrogen bottle to 1S-8941 Hose Assembly and open valve to gauge on bottle. Open gas valve and charge the accumulator to 2280 kPa (330 psi).14. Charge time should be 10-15 seconds.15. If gauge instantly goes to 2280 kPa (330 psi), air has not been properly purged from the gas chamber. Repeat steps 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14.16. When properly charged, close the accumulator gas valve, but leave gauge valve open. Leaving the gauge valve open ensures the accumulator piston is at the bottom of its stroke and the chamber is full of nitrogen gas.17. Remove the gas bottle, 1S-8941 Hose Assembly and 1S-8938 Chuck Assembly. Replace the charging valve cap and valve guard.18. Repeat steps 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 (if necessary) for the second accumulator.19. When the second accumulator is properly charged, place the ride control switch in the OFF position.20. Start the engine. Lower the bucket or attachment to the ground and lift the front of the machine off the ground.21. Place the ride control switch in the ON position.22. Pressure should leave the rod ends of the lift cylinders and lower the machine to the ground.
