ECM controls engine speed on 3500B and 3406E engines in electric power generation applications. The desired engine speed is based on the following information:
input from the Speed Potentiometer (SP)
feedback from the sensors that are mounted on the engineThe GSC receives the following information from the ECM:
engine oil pressure
engine coolant temperature
operating hours for the engine
voltage of the battery system The above information is shown on the lower display of the GSC. The information is used by the GSC in order to monitor the system for faults. Faults include low engine oil pressure or high engine coolant temperature. The GSC also displays diagnostic codes from the ECM as a convenience to the operator.
