AVAILABILITYThis upgrade kit is free of charge. However, failure to return the CPU card and/or the OPTIMATE display will result in a $500 charge. Test/Fill units in inventory at the Morton Parts Distribution Center have been upgraded. Units in inventory at other distribution centers will not be upgraded. However, these units will be tagged to note the need for upgrade. Step # 2 of "calibrating the unit" in the Test/Fill unit's tool operating manual displays atmospheric pressure (ATM Pressure). Correct sensing of atmospheric pressure is the key to proper oil fill level in any joint or cavity. If the display reads approximately 14.7, then the transducer will need to be replaced. The transducer is located in the handle/nozzle assembly. The new transducer is part number 188-5062, and replacement is self-explanatory and easy to accomplish. The new transducer will cause ATM pressure to read approximately 28.5. The 170-5664 Test/Fill unit is not designed to use its vacuum source to evacuate the oil from a cavity. Always remove the rubber stopper from a cavity to allow oil drainage when the joint must be refilled. A new piece of equipment called the "Track Vac" will be introduced during the first quarter of 2002. The Track Vac is designed to evacuate oil from a cavity through the stopper hole without removing the stopper.
