Component Code(s) 5072SUBJECT: REWORK ON THE DETENT PLATE AND THE DETENT ASSEMBLY
PROBLEM:
When you move the bulldozer control lever forward into LOWER position, you should contact a bump point that you can push through to reach the FLOAT position where the bulldozer control lever is held by the FLOAT detent. If this bump is not a single distinct point, if the lever cannot be pushed smoothly through the bump to FLOAT, or if the bump force is not present, correction must be taken.
SOLUTION:
Remove the pilot valve boot.
Inspect detent assembly (4) to assure the knife edge plunger is detained in the plunger bore. If it is not, perform the Detent Assembly Replacement Procedure.
Move the bulldozer control lever through the bump while the in FULL TILT LEFT position. Repeat in FULL TILT RIGHT position and in NEUTRAL TILT position. Look for the contact point between detent assembly (4) and detent plate (2) or multiple contacts of the detent knife edge with the detent. If there is any contact of the detent plate other than a single contact of the knife edge with the rib of the detent plate, perform the Rework Procedure.
If the knife edge does not contact the detent plate (2), perform the Detent Plate Adjustment Procedure.
Detent Assembly Replacement Procedure
Remove the detent assembly (4) from the lever assembly.
Install new detent assembly (4) to the lever assembly with two bolts (5). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 12 ± 3 N.m (9 ± 2 lb ft).
Rework Procedure
Remove the two bolts (1), detent plate (2), and shims (3).
Remove the two bolts (5) from the lever assembly.
Remove the detent assembly (4) from the lever assembly.
Note: Shims (3) will be installed later in the procedure.
Illustration 2
Measure distance (A) 2.0 mm (0.079 inch) from the rib downward, as shown in Illustration 2. Grind off material (B) from distance (A) downward.
Illustration 3
Grind off chamfers 2.0 mm (0.079 inch) (C) at 45 degrees angle. Leave 2.0 mm (0.079 inch) (D) from the top of detent assembly (4), as shown in Illustration 3.
Install detent assembly (4) to the lever assembly with two bolts (5). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 12 ± 3 N.m (9 ± 2 lb ft).
Install shims (3) and detent plate (2) to the control lever with two bolts (1). Hand tighten bolts (1) at this point.
Perform Detent Plate Adjustment Procedure.
Detent Plate Adjustment Procedure
Illustration 4
Move control handle so detent assembly knife edge is just below the detent plate rib.
Sung up the detent plate rib as close to the detent assembly knife edge as possible without touching (See Illustration 4).
Adjust the detent
