TECHNICAL INFORMATION BULLETIN October 30, 2002
TRACK-TYPE TRACTORS D6M (4JN, 2RN, 9ZM, 3WN, 4HS, 5NR, 2YS, 4GS, 6LR, 5WR)
Component Code(s) 5101SUBJECT: INSTALLATION OF STOPS ON C-FRAME AND BLADE OF D6M
PROBLEM:
Failure of the angle cylinder on the D6M tractor may occur in high corner blade loading applications. The bolt (1J-2175) that holds the cylinder piston to the rod may loosen or break, leading to an angle cylinder failure.
SOLUTION:
Use the following procedure to weld stops to the C-frame and to the blade:
Required Parts
Part Part Number Description Quantity
1 200-4163 C-Frame Stop 2
2 205-6195 Blade Stop (LH) 1
3 205-6194 Blade Stop (RH) 1

Illustration 2
Raise the blade until the C-frame is in a horizontal position. Place a block under the C-frame tower for support.
In order to make the right side of the C-frame and blade accessible, angle the blade to the left until the blade reaches the maximum angle.
Grind the paint on the C-frame around the perimeter where the C-frame stop will be welded.
Illustration 3
Tack weld two small scrap parts (5) that will support stop (1) at 15 mm (0.590 inch) (A) above the bottom of C-frame (4). See Illustration 3.
Illustration 4
Use a clamp (6) to press stop (1) to C-frame (4), as in Illustration 4.
Illustration 5
Illustration 6
Tack weld the stop to the C-frame, as in Illustration 5.
Due to fabrication tolerances, the rear part of the stop may pull away from the C-frame (Illustration 6). Use a clamp to press the stop firmly against the C-frame before tacking.
Illustration 7
Remove the two tacked scrap parts (See Illustration 3). Weld along the perimeter of the C-frame stop.
Grind the paint on the blade around the perimeter where blade stop (3) will be welded.
Illustration 8
Tack weld two scrap strips (7) to the bottom face of the blade. The strips should be positioned to support the stop during welding operations.
Illustration 9
Grind the top surface of the strips, as indicated in Illustration 9, so that the stop can fit into position, resting on the strips.
Illustration 10
Weld two small scrap strips together in order to make fixture (8) that will clamp stop (3) against the blade. See Illustration 10.
Tack weld fixture (8) to the blade in a location that will allow stop (3) to slide into position, as in Illustration 10.
Illustration 11
Use a suitable jack (9) to push stop (3) tightly against the back of the blade. The weight of stop (3) is 25 kg (55 lb).
Tack weld the stop to the blade.
Illustration 12
Remove the tacked scrap parts (see Illustration 8 and Illustration 10). Weld along the perimeter of the stop.
Repeat Steps 1 through 15 for the left side of the C-frame and blade.
Illustration 13
Paint exposed metal in order to prevent corrosion. See Illustration 13.
