D8R (6YZ 1-Up)
D9R (ABK 1-Up; ACL 1-Up)
D10R (AKT 1-Up)
D11R (7PZ 1-Up; AAF 1-Up)
Component Code(s) 1273SUBJECT: Early hour fuel filter plugging on the D6R, D7R, D8R, D9R, D10R, and D11R Track Type Tractors.
PROBLEM:
The primary fuel filter may become restricted with a gelatin substance that causes low fuel pressure and engine performance complaints. This gelatin is the result of a chemical reaction between the rust preventative agent used during the tank manufacture and water based tank-cleaning agents.
SOLUTION:
On machines that have plugged fuel filters, cut filters and inspect for root cause. If root cause is determined to be a gelatin type substance, call your local Caterpillar product analyst for instructions on the most effective method to remove the gelatin from the fuel tank. The primary fuel filter and water separator contains the gelatin and no harm to the fuel system will occur. All tractors shipped after March 20th 2003 have been inspected and cleaned to remove any presence of this gelatin. Suspect machines were built between December 1, 2002 and March 10, 2003
