After repairs are completed to the drum driveplanetary and motor, the drum drive planetary oil should be drained andreplaced with 4C6767 Synthetic Gear Oil or TDTO 50 Grade. (refer to servicemagazine dated September 10, 2001 for more information. The correct fillquantity for the drum drive planetary is 3.9 liters(4.12 quarts) for theCS/CP533D, CS/CP563D, CS573D and CS583D. The correct fill quantity forthe CS/CP663E and CS683E is 3.2 liters(3.4 quarts).
Due to the various passageways in theplanetary and the length of time it may take for the oil to seek the correctlevel, it is recommended that the proper quantity of oil be premeasuredprior to filling. This will minimize the length of time to refill the planetary. Using 80W140, 85W140 or 80W90 GL5 withextreme pressure additives will shorten the parking brake disc servicelife.
