1. Disconnect hose assemblies (5) from the primary fuel filter base. Put plugs in the hose assemblies to prevent fuel loss and to keep dirt out of the fuel system.2. Remove bolts (1) and the washers that hold the fuel priming pump and primary fuel filter to the side of the engine. Remove the fuel priming pump and primary fuel filter as a unit.3. Remove two bolts (3), the washers, fuel priming pump (4) and the gasket from the primary fuel filter base.4. Loosen nut (2) to remove filter case assembly (6) from the base. Remove the fuel filter element assembly from the case assembly. Remove the gasket from the base. The following steps are for the installation of the fuel priming pump and the primary fuel filter.5. Check the condition of the gasket used in the fuel filter base and between the fuel priming pump and fuel filter base. If the gaskets are damaged, use new parts for replacement.6. Be sure all parts of the primary fuel filter and fuel priming pump are thoroughly clean prior to assembly and installation.7. Install the fuel filter element assembly in fuel filter case assembly (6). Install the gasket in the fuel filter base. Put the fuel filter case assembly in position on the base, and tighten nut (2) to a torque of 24 4 N m (18 3 lb ft).8. Put the gasket and fuel priming pump (4) in position on the fuel filter base. Install the washers and bolts (3) that hold it.9. Put the primary fuel filter and fuel priming pump in position on the side of the engine. Install the washers and bolts (1) that hold it.10. Connect hose assemblies (5) to the fuel filter base.11. For further details concerning servicing of the primary fuel filter, see the Operation & Maintenance Manual.
