There is no scheduled Oil Change Interval in the Maintenance Schedule. The oil change interval is determined by S O S oil analysis (including infrared [IR]) with considerations for type of fuel and lube oil used, and application and duty cycle of the engine.In order to achieve maximum engine lube oil life and to provide optimum protection for the engine components, Caterpillar recommends using Scheduled Oil Sampling (S O S) to determine the oil change interval.S O S will help to determine the proper oil change interval for your engine considering the type of oil, fuel and the operating conditions. The S O S program will determine oil change intervals based on condemning limits established by Caterpillar. Samples are recommended at Every Week or 5600 km (3500 miles). They must be taken at least Every Two Weeks or 11 000 km (7000 miles) throughout the life of the engine.The S O S program must include Infrared Analysis (IR) to determine oil change intervals. If your dealer does not have Infrared Analysis capabilities, he can make arrangements for the testing, or for approved alternate testing. If S O S analysis is not available, the following limits should be adhered to for oil change intervals. If oil analysis cannot be used and no other means of analysis is available, the oil change interval for heavy (blended) fuel and for distillate fuel is Every 3 Months or 72 500 km (45,000 miles) MAXIMUM.
