Transmission components (1) Speed clutches (2) Direction clutchesNine multi-plate wet clutches are used in conjunction with 22 gears. The clutches can be divided into two groups. The first group consists of six speed clutches (1) that are positioned in the front housing of the transmission. The second group consists of three direction clutches (2) that are positioned in the rear housing of the transmission.The speed clutches control the selection of the first nine ratios. The speed clutches provide the early stages of reduction in engine speed. The direction clutches work with the speed clutches in order to provide an additional two stages of reduction in engine speed for the required final output level. The direction clutches also provide the reverse direction.The "F1" direction clutch engages if a shuttle shift is made in tenth speed and above. The "F1" direction clutch will engage at a pressure up to 690 kPa (100 psi). The momentary engagement of the "F1" direction clutch is used as a brake for the transmission. The machine must be in motion in order for the "F1" direction clutch to engage. If the machine is stopped, the "F1" direction clutch does not engage.Upshifting in speeds F10 through F16 will cause the "F2" direction clutch to engage at a pressure of about 690 kPa (100 psi) in order to soften the shift.
