Open the engine access doors on both sides of the machine in order to gain access to the hydraulic oil filter.

(1) Service brake control valve (2) Gear pump (3) Strainer (4) Hydraulic tank (5) Fan motor (6) Hydraulic oil filter (7) Motor (Axle oil cooler) (8) Hydraulic oil cooler (9) Oil cooler bypass valveOil for hydraulic oil filter (6) starts in hydraulic tank (4). Gear pump (2) for the braking and hydraulic fan system draws oil from the tank through strainer (3) into the gear pump. The gear pump is located on the right side of the engine near the rear of the machine.Part of the pressure oil from the gear pump flows into fan motor (5). The remainder of the oil flows to service brake control valve (1). The oil flows from the fan motor to axle oil cooler pump and motor (7) (if equipped) or through the cooler bypass valve. The axle oil cooler pump and motor (if equipped) is located behind the rear axle. Then, the oil flows through oil cooler (8) to oil filter (6). The oil then flows through the filter to the tank.

(6) Filter element (10) Outlet passage (11) Oil sample portDuring normal operation, the oil flows through filter element (6) and out through outlet passage (10) to the hydraulic tank. Filter element (6) collects the debris that is in the oil. If the filter element becomes full of debris, the restriction to the flow of oil causes a pressure increase inside the filter. A bypass valve is in the oil filter base. When the pressure overcomes the force of the spring in the oil bypass valve, the bypass valve opens. The oil then flows through the bypass valve and into the hydraulic tank.Port (11) is the oil sample port.
