Information:
Priming the fuel system fills the fuel filter. Priming the fuel system removes air bubbles from the fuel system. Prime the fuel system under the following conditions:* Fuel system that is run dry* Storage* Fuel Filter Maintenance* Disconnecting fuel lines and installing fuel lines* Repair of leaks in the fuel lines
Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separators elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
Use a suitable container to catch any fuel that might spill. Clean up any spilled fuel immediately.
Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over any disconnected fuel system component.
Do not remove the plug in the fuel filter base in order to release air from the fuel system during periodic service of the fuel filter. Periodic removal of the plug will result in increased wear of the threads in the fuel filter base. This can lead to fuel leakage. However, the plug in the fuel filter base can be used to bleed air from the fuel system if the engine runs out of fuel.
Fuel priming pump1. Unlock and operate the priming pump plunger until a resistance is felt.2. Push the plunger in. Tighten the plunger by hand.
Do not crank the engine continuously for more than 30 seconds. Allow the starting motor to cool for two minutes before cranking the engine again.
3. Crank the engine. If the engine will not start, or once the engine is started the engine continues to misfire or smoke, further priming is necessary.4. If the engine starts, but runs rough, continue running the engine at low idle until the engine runs smoothly.
Fuel line nut
DO NOT loosen the fuel line adapter on the top of fuel injection nozzles. The fuel injection nozzle will be damaged if the top of the nozzle turns in the body when the fuel lines are loosened. The engine will be damaged if a defective fuel injection nozzle is used because of the shape of fuel (spray pattern) that comes out of the nozzle will be incorrect.
5. If the engine will not start, loosen the fuel line nuts, one at a time, a the fuel injection nozzles to help purge fuel lines of air before air bubbles enter fuel injection nozzles. Ensure to tighten each fuel line nut before the next fuel line nut is loosened.6. Crank the engine again until the fuel flows free of air bubbles. If the engine will start, then continue to run the engine until fuel flows free without pockets of air in the fuel lines.7. Tighten the fuel line nuts to 40 7 N m (30 5 lb ft).
