This diagnostic code is activated by the Implement ECM when the Implement ECM 2 location code is not correct AND the Implement ECM 2 has detected an FMI 03 (voltage above normal) condition for a solenoid output at the same time. This diagnostic code can also be activated by the Implement ECM when the Implement ECM 3 location code is not correct AND the Implement ECM 3 has detected an FMI 03 (voltage above normal) condition for a solenoid output at the same time.The probable cause of this diagnostic code is a problem with the hard wired location code connections for the involved ECM AND a solenoid output from the involved ECM is shorted to another voltage source at the same time. In order to troubleshoot the active CID 2954 FMI 14 diagnostic code, the cause of the incorrect location code must be found and repaired first. Once the location code problem is corrected, the CID 2954 FMI 14 diagnostic code will no longer be active. The Implement ECM will then activate an FMI 03 diagnostic code for the specific solenoid that has the voltage above normal fault condition. When activation occurs, refer to the diagnostic code troubleshooting procedure for the specific solenoid that has the fault.An open circuit, or a poor connection in the circuit could cause the Implement ECM to detect an incorrect location code.Note: For help with verification of correct location codes, in the Cat ET status screen, the "actual" location code and the "desired" location code for each ECM on the machine can be displayed. Check the ET status screen in order to determine which location code is not correct for the assigned control. The location codes for each implement control are listed below: Implement ECM ... 2Implement ECM 2 ... 3Implement ECM 3 ... 5Expected Result:One of the location codes is not correct.Results:
YES - One of the location codes is not correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - The location codes that are listed in the Cat ET status screen for the implement controls are correct. Repair: Repeat this test step in order to verify that the location codes are correct for the listed Implement Controls.If the location codes that are listed in Cat ET match the Implement Control location codes that are listed above, proceed to Test Step 4.Test Step 2. INSPECT HARNESS CONNECTIONS
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector J1 from the affected Implement ECM.
Inspect the harness connections that are related to the location codes for the Implement ECM that is involved. Make sure that the connectors are clean. Make sure that the connectors are tight.
Check for the proper mating of the connector.
Check all wires at the connector.
Check each wire for nicks. Check each wire for signs of abrasion in the insulation.
Check for moisture at the connector.
Check for dirty contacts or corroded contacts.
