Indications and System Response
Caterpillar Multipurpose Display (CMPD)
The CMPD will alert the operator when an event or diagnostic code is active on the Chassis ECM. A warning will pop up on the CMPD screen when one or more Automatic Traction Control (ATC) event or diagnostic codes become active. The ATC lamp on the Instrument Cluster will also flash to indicate that ATC is not fully functional. Note: The Chassis ECM communicates with the Instrument Cluster via the Transmission/Chassis ECM.The action Indicator will flash red when a Level 2 warning or Level 3 warning is active. If communication between Chassis ECM and the Instrument Cluster fails, the action lamp will flash yellow. The action alarm is driven as an output directly from the Instrument Cluster. If a Level 3 warning is active, the action alarm will sound a tone that is pulsing. The action alarm will sound these tones to alert the machine operator that an immediate action is required. If two warnings of a different level are active at the same time, the highest level warning will be displayed.Event Codes on Cat® ET
When an abnormal operating condition of the Chassis ECM occurs, the status screen on Cat® ET will indicate that there is an active event.Parts of the Event Code
Event codes are displayed on Cat® ET in the following format:EXXXX (X) Description of the codeThe "E" indicates an event code. "XXXX" represents a numeric identifier for the event code. The numeric identifier is followed by the warning level "(X)", which informs the severity of the abnormal system condition. A description of the event code is also included.Refer to the following example:E1258 (1) Low Interaxle Lock Accumulator Pressure
The E indicates an event code
The 1258 is the event code identifier
The (1) is the warning levelActive Event Code
An active event represents a problem with the system. Correct the problem as soon as possible. Active event codes are listed in ascending numerical order. The code with the lowest number is listed first.Logged Event Codes
When the ECM generates an event code, the ECM logs the code in permanent memory. Some event codes are active only. The logged event codes are listed in chronological order with the most recent code, listed first. This information can be helpful for troubleshooting intermittent problems. Logged codes can also be used to review the performance of the ATC feature. The ECM will record the following information when an event code is generated:
The hour of the first occurrence of the code
The hour of the last occurrence of the code
The number of occurrences of the code.A logged code is cleared from memory when one of the following conditions occur:
The service technician manually clears the code.
