Air carbon arc torch
Carbon arc electrode 5 mm (0.197 inch) to 9 mm (0.354 inch)
Welding power source for Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
Welding rod AWS E7018, 3.2 mm (0.125 inch) and 4.0 mm (0.156 inch)
Disc grinderThe following optional process and equipment can be used.Gas metal arc welding
Carbon dioxide gas shielding
Solid wire AWS ER70 S6 General Recommendations
Note: Replace the C-Frame with new components from parts stock if the C-Frame cannot be salvaged.
Disassemble the components and protect the parts in order to allow easy access and safe working conditions for the welder.
Disconnect the battery cables if the components are installed on the machine.
Locate the welding ground cable as near as possible to the work area.
Position the C-Frame for suitable welding.WELDING PROCEDURE
Thoroughly clean all the parts. Remove the following contaminants: grease, oil, paint and dirt.
Use the air carbon arc torch to form a J-groove. Ensure that the entire crack is removed so that the crack will not prematurely return.
Preheat the tower to approximately 300 °C (572 °F) for the first pass.
Weld the root pass with the 3.175 mm (0.125 inch) electrode. Set the amperage between 130 amperes and 150 amperes.
Complete the weld joint with 4.0 mm (0.156 inch) electrodes. Refer to the illustrations for weld specifications. Set the amperage from 210 amperes to 230 amperes.
