Illustration 1. Comparison of tie rods. (1) Tie rod (former). (2) Tie rod (new).Adaptable To: The new tie rods and nuts are direct replacements for the former tie rods and nuts when installed together as one unit. The new tie rods are effective with B115, B115W (B115A03083), B130, B130W (B130A03846), B140, B140W (B140A02320), and B160, B160W (B160A04020). The new tie rods and nuts can not be used with the former tie rods and nuts. A new nut must be used with the new tie rod. Chart A identifies the new and former part numbers for the models and groups used.
It is important to use the correct procedure when installing new tie rods and nuts.
Procedure To Install Tie Rods And Nuts
1. Install O-ring seal into groove in the tie rod.2. Coat O-ring seal, tie rod threads, and the area under the head of the tie rod, which contact the valve body, with 6V-4876 Molycote Paste Lubricant.3. Spread cold galvanizing spray (zinc paint) on the part of the tie rod which goes inside the front head.4. Install tie rods into the hammer. For B115 only, do not mix former tie rods and nuts with new tie rods and nuts in the same hammer. (B130, B140, and B160) If it is necessary to replace a former tie rod, the corresponding former nut must be replaced also. It is also recommended to replace the diagonally opposite tie rod and nut. Do not use former nuts on new tie rods or new nuts on former tie rods.5. The new nuts are stamped with an arrow and the word "UP". Install nut with arrow pointed toward the tie rod (see Illustration 2).
Illustration 2. Install nut with arrow pointing in direction shown.6. Tighten tie rods with a torque wrench in the sequence shown in Chart B.
