(1) Wing nut
(2) Air filter element indicator Run the engine at torque converter stall speed and check air filter element indicator (2). Service the air cleaner if the yellow piston in air filter element indicator (2) moves into the red zone. Stop the engine. There are two air cleaners to service.
Remove the retaining pin. Loosen wing nut (1) and remove the cover.

(3) Engine air filter primary element
Remove engine air filter primary element (3) from the air cleaner housing.

Clean the inside of air cleaner housing (4).
Inspect engine air filter primary element (3). If the pleats, the gaskets, or the seals are damaged, discard engine air filter primary element (3). Replace a damaged engine air filter primary element (3) with a clean engine air filter primary element (3).
Do not clean the primary element by bumping or tapping them. Do not use primary element with damaged pleats, gaskets or seals. Engine damage can result.Make sure the cleaned primary element is completely dry before installing into the air cleaner housing. Water remaining in the primary element can cause false indications of contamination in Scheduled Oil Sampling test results.
If engine air filter primary element (3) is not damaged, clean engine air filter primary element (3). Engine air filter primary element (3) can be cleaned by using the following methods:
Air pressure
Water pressure
Detergent washingWhen you use air pressure, the maximum air pressure is 205 kPa (30 psi). When you use water pressure, the maximum water pressure is 280 kPa (40 psi).

(3) Engine air filter primary element
When you clean the inside pleats and the outside pleats, direct the air along the pleats or direct the water along the pleats. Engine air filter primary element (3) can be washed in a solution that consists of warm water and of nonsudsing household detergent. Fully rinse the pleats. Allow engine air filter primary element (3) to air dry completely.
Inspect engine air filter primary element (3) after you clean the primary element. Do not use an engine air filter primary element (3) if the pleats, the gaskets or the seals are damaged.
Cover the clean engine air filter primary element (3). Store engine air filter primary element (3) in a clean, dry location. An engine air filter primary element (3) may be cleaned for a maximum of six times. Also replace engine air filter primary element (3) if engine air filter primary element (3) has been in service for one year.
Install a clean engine air filter primary element (3). Install the wing nut. Install the retaining pin. Note: Make sure that engine air filter primary element (3 ) is properly seated and sealed.
Reset filter element indicator (2). Start the engine. Run the engine at torque converter stall speed. If the yellow piston in filter element indicator (2) moves into the red zone, install a new engine air filter primary element (3). Also, if the
