Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the separation procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism. 1. Install Tooling (A) to the transmission. Attach a hoist and suitable lifting chains to Tooling (A). 2. Remove 16 bolts (1) that hold the transmission to the transfer gear case. 16 bolts (1) are not all the same size. Mark 16 bolts (1) for assembly purposes. 3. Separate the transmission from the transfer gear case, as shown. The weight of the transmission is 1090 kg (2400 lb). 4. Remove O-ring seals (2) and (3) from transmission adapter plate (4). 5. Remove two bolts (6) that hold the transmission adapter plate to the transmission.6. Install two 1/2 - 13 NC forcing screws in holes (5). Tighten the forcing screws evenly and remove the transmission adapter plate from the transmission.7. Remove the O-ring seal from the back of the transmission adapter plate. 8. Install Tooling (B) on transmission adapter housing (7). Attach a hoist and suitable lifting chains to Tooling (B).9. Remove 24 bolts (8) that hold transmission adapter housing (7) to the transmission. Remove the transmission adapter housing from the transmission. The weight of the transmission adapter housing is 90 kg (198 lb).10. Remove the O-ring seal from the transmission housing.
