Remove the service brakes. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Service Brake - Remove and Install".

Typical Example
Remove two bolts (1) from the pinion housing. The bolts are located on either side of holes (2).
Install two guide bolts that are approximately 152 mm (6 inch) long into the bolt holes.
Remove the remaining bolts (1) from the pinion housing.
Slide the pinion housing away from the differential housing. Forcing bolts may be used in holes (2) in order to separate the pinion housing from the differential housing.

Typical Example
Install Tooling (A) into holes (2), as shown.
Support the pinion gear assembly with a hoist and a suitable lifting device. Remove the pinion gear assembly from the axle. The weight of the pinion housing is 68.0 kg (150 lb).
