Remove rack stop screw (3) from the rack stop screw's location on the rear housing.
Install lever (12) onto the engine's fuel control shaft (13). The engine's fuel control shaft is splined. Lever (12) has a splined hole and a threaded hole. Make sure that the centerlines of the splined hole and the centerlines of the threaded hole are parallel to the upper housing's top deck. Orient the threaded hole toward the left side of the engine when the engine is viewed from the flywheel end of the engine.
Tighten clamping bolt (10) .
Apply 1000 to 1400 kPa (145 to 200 psi) of pressure to shutoff cylinder (8) .
Adjust the dimension from the center of eye (9) to the center of eye (11) to approximately 333 mm (13.1 inch). The length may require further adjustment. Do not lock the jam nuts.Note: Install washers on both sides of eye (9) and eye (11) of shutoff cylinder (8) .
Install shutoff cylinder (8) onto lever (12). Lever (12) is located on the engine's fuel control shaft (13) .
Install lever (4) onto the other end of shutoff cylinder (8) .
The engine may overspeed due to incorrect assembly or adjustment.Engine overspeed could result in personal injury, loss of life and/or property damage.Be prepared to stop the engine by activating the engine shutdown system or closing the air inlet lines.
Note: In order to align output lever (5) with the splines on lever (4), the shutoff cylinder's linkage may require adjustment. If an adjustment is required, extend the linkage. Do not shorten the linkage.
With the actuator at the zero reference point, install lever (4) onto output lever (5).
Tighten bolt (6) .
Install rack stop screw (3) and the rack stop screw's washer into the rear housing and observe the actuator's indicator (7). When rack stop screw (3) is installed, the indicator moves slightly toward the FUEL-ON position.
Remove the valve covers from the No. 17 cylinder and from the No. 18 cylinder.
Check the distance between the trim screw of the injector and the rack's shoulder. The maximum distance is 6 mm (0.2 inch).Note: If the distance is greater than 6 mm (0.2 inch), make sure that the correct washer is installed with rack stop screw (3). If the distance is greater than 6 mm (0.2 inch), the engine may not be able to shut down. Also, the engine may overspeed without a load.
Rotate the rack control linkage in the FUEL-ON direction until lever (1) contacts fuel setting screw (2). Hold the rack control linkage in this position.
Observe the actuator's indicator (7). The indicator's minimum travel is 75 percent and the maximum travel is 97 percent.
Install the valve covers onto the No. 17 cylinder and the No. 18 cylinder.
