Read and understand this publication before using the Oil Renewal System (ORS). Reduced engine life may result from improper operation of the ORS.
The Oil Renewal System (ORS) is used to optimize the oil change interval of the engine. By optimizing the oil change interval of an engine, several benefits are realized. One of the benefits of using an ORS is the increase in the availability of the machine. The amount of waste oil that must be disposed of by the customer is substantially decreased. The use of an ORS on an engine will not reduce the life of the engine.General Description
The ORS meters engine oil that has been filtered into the fuel supply of the machine. This oil will be consumed in the engine during the normal process of combustion. The amount of oil that is metered is calculated by the engine's Electronic Control Module (ECM). This amount is based on the actual load factor or on the fuel that is consumed by the engine. When the used engine oil from the oil pan is injected into the return fuel line, new oil from a makeup tank (if equipped) is added to the oil pan. The regular introduction of fresh engine oil into the engine allows the oil change interval to be extended. The customer utilizes trend analysis from the S O S Oil Analysis in order to determine when the engine oil needs to be changed.Note: The following monitoring systems can be found on different models of off-highway trucks: Caterpillar Monitoring System (CMS), Electronic Monitoring System (EMS) and Vital Information Management System (VIMS), VIMSTM 3G. The term "Monitoring System" will be used throughout this text to describe the monitoring system that is on your machine. The ORS is integrated with the engine's lubrication system, the engine's fuel system, and the electronic system of the engine and machine. The electronic system consists of sensors, switches, the engine ECM, and the machine's monitoring system. If a problem with the ORS occurs, the electronic system notifies the operator of a monitoring system warning or of a system malfunction. The following warnings are detected by the machine's electronic system:
Problem with the metering valve
Plugging of the engine oil filter
Low fuel level
Plugging of the fuel filter
Low engine oil level
Low engine oil pressure
Low oil level in the makeup tank (if equipped)The electronics of the engine automatically turns off the system in order to avoid possible damage to the engine. The system can be restarted by correcting the problem and cycling the keyswitch.Reference
