Hydraulic Fan Motor (1) Shaft. (2) Case. (3) Retainer plate. (4) Pistons. (5) Pin (pivot). (6) Barrel. (7) Port plate. (8) Head. The hydraulic fan motor is a bent axis piston motor. The motor has a fixed displacement of oil per revolution. The hydraulic fan motor is mounted on a frame at the rear of the machine.The components of the motor that turn are shaft (1), retainer plate (3), pistons (4) and barrel (6). The parts that do not turn are head (8), case (2), and port plate (7) .The fixed displacement bent axis motor has a predetermined angle between the retainer plate and the barrel. Pressurized oil flows into the motor through the port plate into the barrel. The pressurized oil in the barrel forces the piston that is into the barrel out of the barrel. Pushing the piston out of the barrel forces the barrel to rotate. As the barrel rotates, the oil that is compressed between the barrel and the piston is allowed to flow through the port plate and out to the hydraulic tank.In a bent axis piston motor, the speed of the motor is determined by the flow of hydraulic oil to the inlet at a pressure that is supplied by the pump. When the drive shaft turns, the drive shaft turns the fan blade at the same speed.Any internal leakage drains back to the hydraulic tank through the case drain. A separate hose will return the oil that has escaped into the case back to the hydraulic tank.The fan motor turns the fan at a speed in order to match the cooling system requirements. When the requirements of the cooling system are met, the power demand on the engine is decreased.
