Reduction of Particulate Emissions
The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) will reduce particulate emissions. The DPF collects the soot and any ash that is produced by the combustion in the engine. During regeneration, the soot is converted into a gas which is released into the atmosphere. The Ash remains in the DPF.The temperature of the DPF must be above a particular value in order for regeneration to occur. The exhaust gas provides heat for the regeneration process. Regeneration is the process that is used by the DPF in order to remove soot from the DPF.The process of regeneration is fully automatic. The engine electronic control module will decide when to start and when to stop the process. The operation requires no intervention from the operator.During normal engine operation, the operator of the engine may notice the lack of black smoke from the exhaust system. In some application the operator may notice an increase in engine idle speed during the regeneration process.
