Front Wheel Alignment
Check and adjust the front wheel alignment as follows:1. Lift the front of the vehicle until the front wheels are off the ground and the suspension cylinders are fully extended.2. Move the wheels to a straight ahead position.3. Measure the distance between the front tires at location (1). Mark location (1) at each tire and rotate 180°. Again measure distance (4) between the same marks. The correct toe-out for the front wheels (with the wheels off the ground) is when distance (4) at the back of the tires is 64.3 mm (2.53 in.) less than distance (1) at the front of tires.4. If it is necessary to adjust the tie rods to get the correct TOE-OUT, loosen clamps (2) on the left tie rod and clamps (3) on the right tie rod. Turn each tie rod the same number of turns to get the correct TOE-OUT measurement. After adjustment, the tie rods must be of equal (same) length.5. When the TOE-OUT measurement is correct, tighten clamps (2) and (3) and lower the front of the vehicle.
STEERING LINKAGE
1. Distance between the tires (at the front). 2. Clamps on left side tie bar. 3. Clamps on right side tie bar. 4. Distance between the front tires (at the back).Front Wheel Bearing Adjustment
1. Install the wheel and bearing cone (1) on the spindle. Do not use shims under retainer (2). Install retainer (2) with only three bolts (3) in the retainer, evenly spaced as shown.
WHEEL BEARING ADJUSTMENT
1. Bearing cone. 2. Retainer. 3. Bolts.2. Turn the wheel slowly on the spindle and tighten each bolt to a torque of 70 N m (50 lb. ft.)3. Turn the wheel and tighten three bolts (3) again to a torque of 70 N m (50 lb. ft.) to seat the bearings.4. Use a depth micrometer and measure the distance, through the two holes with screw threads in retainer (2), to the spindle. Make an average of the two measurements.5. Remove retainer (2) and measure the thickness of the retainer near the holes with screw threads. Make an average of these two measurements.6. Subtract the thickness of retainer (2), found in Step 5, from the measurement found in Step 4. This is the distance between the axle and retainer (2). To this measurement, add 0.25 mm (.010 in.). This is the correct amount of shims (4) to be installed.7. Install the correct thickness shims (4), retainer (2) and the six bolts. Turn the wheel while the bolts are tightened to a torque of 250 14 N m (185 10 lb. ft.).
SHIMS INSTALLATION
1. Bearing cone. 2. Retainer. 4. Shims.Alternate Method
Install the wheel, bearings, retainer (with no shims) and only three bolts. Tighten the three bolts as given in Steps 2 and 3.Install two 3/8 in.-16 NC forcing screws and nuts in the holes with screw threads in retainer (2). Turn the two screws in until they touch the spindle. Tighten the locknuts finger tight so that the screws will not turn.
