PARTS DISPOSITION
Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling.
Rework Procedure
A) Removing the old sensor:
1. Stop the machine on a hard and level surface
2. Engage the parking brake and chock the wheels (in case of wheeled excavator)
3. Turn the key switch to the OFF position
4. Lock out and tag out main power supply
5. Locate the fuel tank

6. Drain fuel from the tank so that the level is below the fuel sensor mounting location
7. Disconnect old fuel level sensor (341-1842) harness connector from machine harness
8. Remove the 5 screws (096-0736) and 5 washers (8T-0328)

9. Remove the sensor (341-1842) from fuel tank along with the gasket (4I-0378)
10. Remove sealant residue from the tank
B) Installing the new sensor:
11. Make sure the surface of the tank is clean and dry
12. Install the new fuel level sensor (481-6691) and packing (359-8335) into the fuel tank using 5 screws (6V-9673 or 6V-9674) and 5 washers (8T-0328)
13. Tighten the screws in star pattern (1-3-5-2-4) using torque of 1.4 +/- 0.1 Nm. Verify value after initial torque to avoid gasket compression
14. Connect sensor connector to machine harness connector
15. Restore machine power, start machine and confirm there are no fuel leaks
16. In the operator station (cab) display, verify that the fuel level indication is correct
17. Use Cat ET to check for any diagnostic codes related to sensor installation
18. Restore machine to normal operating condition
