Sudden movement of the machine or release of air or oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent possible injury, do the procedure which follows before servicing the air system or brakes.
1. Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move away from working machines and personnel.2. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all personnel either away from the machine or in view of the operator.3. Activate the secondary brake and parking brake. Lower the bucket to the ground. Put wood blocks in front of and behind the wheels. Stop the engine.4. Continuously push on the brake pedal until there is no more brake air pressure. When the pressure has been removed from the air circuit, there will be no pressure in the hydraulic circuit.5. Be sure all air pressure is released before any fitting, hose or component is loosened, tightened, removed or adjusted. Before any operational checks are made, open the drain valve to release any water in the air reservoir. Water lowers the capacity in the reservoir and can cause the air compressor to run constantly. Close the drain valve.6. Connect the steering frame lock link. See the topic "Separate & Connect Steering Frame Lock Link" in this module.
Typical Example7. Remove the cotter pin and pin (1) from the lever.8. Put an alignment mark on lever (2) and the shaft for installation purposes.9. Loosen the bolt that holds lever (2) in place. 10. Remove four bolts (3) and caps (5).11. Disconnect center drive shaft (4) from the yoke on the parking brake. Move the center drive shaft out of the way. 12. Remove four bolts (7), the washers and guard assembly (6). 13. Remove bolts (9), the washers and brake drum (8). 14. Remove bolt (11), retainer (12) and the O-ring seal that hold the yoke in position.15. Mark the position of yoke (10) on the splined end of the front drive shaft for installation purposes. Remove yoke (10) from the splined end of the front drive shaft. Lever (2) and the spring washer are free to fall when the brake shoe assembly is removed.16. Remove four bolts (13), the washers and parking brake group (14). 17. Remove two springs (15) and anchor pin brace (16). 18. Remove cam (17) and plate assembly (18). 19. Remove spring (19) and adjuster assembly (20). 20. Remove socket (23) and screw (21) from nut (22).Install Parking Brake
