to the replacement of the ECM, ensure that replacement is necessary. The ECM is seldom the cause of a failure. Always check that power is available to all of the contacts of the ECM that are marked with "+ Battery".Note: Corrupted configuration software or the wrong software may cause an ECM to report diagnostic codes incorrectly. Prior to replacing the ECM, flash the ECM with the correct configuration software. This step will verify that the failure is not related to the corrupted software. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Flash Program".Procedure
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position and wait for the DEF warning lamp to go out before proceeding.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors from the ECM.
Verify that the part number of the replacement ECM is correct.
Install the replacement ECM.
Connect the machine harness to the ECM.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switches to the ON position.
If necessary, use the Electronic Technician (ET) to install the configuration software. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Flash Program" section of this manual.
Verify that the ECM operates correctly.
