At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly to relieve pressure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Before you start this procedure, shut off the truck engine and the deck engine. Allow the hydraulic system to cool until the hydraulic filter is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Remove hydraulic filter (2) by turning the hydraulic filter counterclockwise from the bottom of the hydraulic filter.
Wipe the sealing face of hydraulic filter base (1) with a clean shop towel. Ensure that the old gasket is not stuck on the sealing face of the hydraulic filter base.
Apply a film of clean hydraulic oil to the gasket of the new hydraulic filter.
Spin on the new hydraulic filter until the gasket just contacts the hydraulic filter base.
Tighten the new hydraulic filter to an additional 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn.
