Information:
Always wear goggles when working on air conditioning systems. The system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Escaping Freon-12 (CC12F2 Dichlorodifluoromethane) can cause freezing of human flesh.Do not smoke while working on air conditioning systems. INHALING FREON-12 THROUGH ANY SMOKING MATERIAL, ALTHOUGH NOT TOXIC OR FLAMMABLE CAN GENERATE LETHAL PHOSPHENE GAS AND CAUSE VIOLENT ILLNESS OR DEATH. ALSO, HEAT MUST NEVER BE APPLIED TO A CHARGED SYSTEM. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual, Form No. Senr3334, for more information on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant from the system.
1. Purge the air conditioning system. See the topic Purging The System located in the Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual, Form No. SENR3334-01.
Typical Example
Typical Example2. Loosen the nut on bolt (7). If necessary, release the tension on pulley assembly (4) to make it possible to remove the V-belts.3. Loosen the inner nut on tension adjuster bolt (1). Slip the belt off of the air conditioning compressor.4. Remove bolt (2).5. Disconnect two wires (8) from the compressor clutch.6. Remove guard (3) and the support clips for wires (8).7. Disconnect two refrigerant lines (5) from the air conditioning compressor. Plug or cap all openings to prevent moisture and contamination from entering the system.8. Support the air conditioning compressor and remove bolts (6) and (7).9. Remove the air conditioning compressor.10. Install the air conditioning compressor in the reverse order of removal.11. Use pulley assembly (4) and the nuts on tension adjuster bolt (1) to obtain the proper V-belt tension. Use a belt tension gauge such as Borroughs Tool Company Part No. BT-33-95 to measure the tension. The belt tension reading should be 535 22 N (120 5 lb) for a new belt, or 400 N 44 (90 10 lb) for a used belt.12. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual, Form No. SENR3334 for the correct procedure for evacuating and charging the system.
